Please Note This is a Past Program, Event, or Activity

You are viewing an archived page for a program, event, or activity that has already taken place. In most cases these pages are no longer actively maintained and because of that may contain inaccurate or out-of-date information. These pages are left publicly viewable to preserve institutional memory and to allow the public to learn more about the types of programs, activities, and content created and made available by the South Street Seaport Museum throughout its history.

Bowne & Co., Stationers opened their doors at the South Street Seaport Museum in 1975, 200 years after Robert Bowne founded his shop across the street on Queen Lane. Today Bowne & Co., continues the tradition of 19th-century letterpress printing.

Enjoy a virtual visit to Bowne & Co. with Bowne’s Art Director Rob Wilson and Turnstile Tours, as they investigate the changing role these stationery and printing offices have played in New York City for 250 years, and the ways in which Bowne & Co. at Seaport Museum uses its collection – 34 printing presses and more than 2400 cases of movable type –  in contemporary ways today.

This free program is co-presented with Turnstile Tours, a local company providing well-researched experiences through partnership with select nonprofit organizations.
